IS REVERSE FLASH THE KEY TO THE RETURN OF WALLY WEST?
WARNING!!!
MAJOR SPOILER
REALLY!
I'M GONNA SAY! SPOILER!!!
Well...
"This weeks’ finale of DC’s Trinity War leads us directly into the beginning of Forever Evil, an entire month dedicated to the villains of the DC Universe. There are many highly anticipated titles to be released in September, which is now dubbed as Villains Month, including Joker’s Daughter (Batman: The Dark Knight #23.4), and Cyborg Superman (Action Comic #23.1). The one that holds the most potential, for me, though, is Flash #23.2 and the introduction of Reverse Flash into the New52.
In last month’s Flash #23 we learned the identity of Reverse Flash, whose identity had been widely speculated to be Eobard Thawne, Hunter Zolomon, or, and many people were holding their breath for this one, Wally West. West was a fan favorite in the pre-52 universe, but there hasn’t been any room for the character thus far in the New52 what with Barry Allen regaining the identity of the Flash.
Don’t lose hope just yet, though, Wally fans!
The identity of Reverse Flash may hold the secret as to whether we may be seeing Wally in the near future. In Flash #23 Iris West, pre-52 aunt of Wally, discovers that Reverse Flash is actually her brother, Daniel. Daniel, or Danny, West was introduced in last year’s Flash #0. Next month’s Flash #23.2 will give us the details as to how Daniel becomes Reverse Flash which should be an interesting story in itself. But I am more interested in the fact that, if Daniel is Iris’ brother and Wally is Iris’ nephew, then is it possible that Wally will be introduced in the future as Daniel’s son?
This is all just speculation, but given how popular Wally West was, and still is, throughout the DC fan base, I don’t see them leaving him on the sidelines for too much longer. This is a character that IGN voted #8 on their list of “Top 100 Super Heroes of All Time” back in May of 2011. The fact that DC chose to create a completely new character for the identity of Reverse Flash who can potentially be the father of Wally leads me to believe, and hope, that they are creating a way to introduce the famous Wally West in the New52".
