This is a great question! It depends in part on your favorite Flash, and I'm sure we will have a lot of answers...
Okay folks, lets nominate some stories for BEST FLASH STORY OF ALL TIME!!!

I don't feel capable of choosing a story as the best. I propose you read as soon as possible the most important Flash story: Flash of Two Worlds (Flash #123 [Sept. 1961]). And I also recomend you “Mystery of the Human Thunderbolt!” (Showcase #4 [September–October 1956]), “A Flash of the Lightning!” (Crisis on Infinite Earths #8 [1985]), “Mystery of the Human Thunderbolt!” (Secret Origins Annual #2 [1987]), "JLA: Year One" (1990's) and "Flash & Green Lantern: The Brave and the Bold" (1990's). These are stories I love.

Thank you! I have read the showcase #4 and found it excellent for its time! I'm currently reading crisis on infinite earths and I know about what happens to the flash, it's only a matter of time before i reach that issue though.

I think that Johns' first run is overall pretty good and worth reading.
Like Ed says, it depends on your favourite Flash and what eras you enjoy. I like the corny Silver and Bronze Age stories because they're so silly and bizarre, but some people hate them.

Ah, and, from New 52, I truly recommend The Flash #0. Letting things clear... Barry Allen is my Flash and I love stories that shows more on his personality.

I've been up to date with each issue of the new 52 Flash, it's very well written and issue 0 is an excellent origin story of Barry Allen.

Hands down, Flashpoint. Not only the best Flash story ever written, but the best story ever written. Hands down.
....
I'm sorry; I think I was possessed by Geoff Johns there for a bit.

I agree, Flashpoint is by far my favorite DC Comics story I've ever read! The only others that are right behind it are Blackest Night and Brightest Day!

This isn't necessarily a Flash story, but I loved what Darwin Cooke did with Barry Allen in New Frontier.

This isn't necessarily a Flash story, but I loved what Darwin Cooke did with Barry Allen in New Frontier. Me too. "Justice League: Year One" is not a Flash story itself, but brings one of the best caracterizations of Barry Allen I've ever read. And I truely recomend "Green Lantern and The Flash: The Brave and The Bold". Mark Waid knows how to write Barry. Geoff Johns should learn with him.
