DC has announced that an iconic character will come out as gay...and some are already speculating that it could be Wally West. I'm not among that group - first of all, Wally would have to exist...and I don't think they are ready to have that happen yet. Second, they haven't said it would be a superhero, but rather a male, iconic character. So, my guess is we will have an important but non-super character come out sometime in June.
That being said, I do support the idea of more diversity in DC's lineup. That's a wonderful idea, and I'm looking forward to whatever announcement they are going to make. As long as the characters are fully developed as characters and are well-written, this can only be a positive. Still, I could be wrong and it could be anyone, including Wally. What are your thoughts on who the character could be?

I actually missed the announcement as I was out of town, so I haven't heard what DC actually said and thus have no speculation on who it could be. I'm in favour of it so long as it isn't done in cheesy stunt fashion, which often ends up pissing off pretty much everyone (including the LGBT community).

I don't think it will be wally west either, but I'm all for them making a character gay just as long as its done right, I just hope they don't have them suddenly like a stereotypical view of a gay person if that makes sense
If they did make wally gay then would they make Linda come back as a man?

Word going around now is that the character is Alan Scott. But I have to admit I was surprised at how widespread the rumour was that it was Wally. A lot of people seemed to think it'd be him.
James Robinson has a pretty good track record writing gay characters, so hopefully Alan will be handled well.

We have confirmation now that the character is in fact Alan Scott. The interviews so far sound like this will be introduced in a way that handles the New 52 Alan Scott well. I was already planning to buy Earth 2 as I'm a big fan of the JSA - and even though there are a LOT of changes here, I'm okay with Alan's re-introduction this way. My main concern so far is Jay's new costume - not Alan's sexual preference. I'm just hoping for good storylines and well-developed characters, and it looks like that is where we're headed.

Well the first issue of earth 2 was better than I expected, and I too am more bothered about Jay's new costume, I like Alan Scott and I'm interested to read more about him when the next issue arrives, on another not I saw a cool Alan Scott statue that I had to have, going to pick it up this week
