I seriously doubt there is anyone on this site that would not like to see the return of Wally West in some fashion. Whether you are a fan of the present series (I certainly am) or not, I find it hard to believe that bringing Wally back in some manner would somehow be a problem.
(In other news, there is going to be one more Bat-series in the New52, just announced, about a duck and a chicken that will patrol the barnyard wearing dark costumes and muttering something about lost parents). jk
The real question to me is - how to bring Wally back in a way that makes sense within the framework of the New52? Yes, we can certainly write him in through the use of another one of the multiple Earths - that's sort of the explanation for Young Justice. But, is that the best solution?
This thread is for your thoughts, and even for links to any fanfics you wish to provide as a solution. If you were to bring Wally back in the New52 - what would be the storyline? How would you do this without killing off other characters or rebooting the continuity? I don't have any great prizes - but I do promise to Tweet the present creative team with the best ideas from this forum. I believe it can be done - I'd just love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks!

They should do it the same way South Park brought back Kenny after that one season where he remained dead. Wally just pops up in a panel, Barry asks "Dude, where have you been?", and Wally replies with "Just hanging around." No questions asked, and then they carry on like nothing happened.

I like the South Park idea for the lulz. My son suggested we put a cape and cowl on Wally - they'd bring him back immediately if we just called him Bat-Flash. Still, I'd love to have a storyline that would make sense in the New52. I know that Manapul and Booch referenced a plan they had, but never provided the details publicly. I'm not that good a storyline guy so I'd fail miserably at the task...still, I'm hoping we can get some suggestions here to pass along...not that they would be taken, but you never know. After all, just look at how Gail Simone got her start - and she is now counted (rightfully so) among the very best.

You know, I thought of an idea, but I don't think it works with what DC's trying to do these days. Hmmm.
As long as DC's thrown out the idea of a Flash Family, at least one guy (and they chose Wally, but it could have been Bart or Barry) will be extraneous. Barry is the Flash, Jay is the Earth 2 Flash, and Bart is the Kid Flash. The only way Wally could have a place is if they significantly change him...which they might do. But people would throw a fit if he became a villain or was totally depowered or something, and I wouldn't blame them. The more I think about it, the more likely it seems Wally really is screwed.

You have a real point...but I'm hoping there is yet something that could happen here. I can think of a couple of possibilities:
1. Wally has been lost in the Speed Force and forgotten due to that fact - and he suddenly reappears in the effort to save Iris (or he even provides the "save" for Iris in the first place).
2. Wally is here in the New52 and is the reason Barry finally is willing to go back into the Speed Force and risk the rescue effort for Iris. He accompanies Barry (or jumps in to the Speed Force when Barry opens up that "hole" by running so fast). As with Turbine, he someone is affected by the Speed Force and gains power...but unlike Turbine receives a power set closer to that of Barry's.
I don't know that either of those would work...but I'm hoping there are other ideas that COULD work in continuity. I really hope Wally isn't completely out here...but we'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, all ideas are welcome here!

The problem is that at the moment, DC seems to be sticking with these few set roles (Flash, Earth-2 Flash, Kid Flash). They don't seem interested in muddying the waters by having other heroic speedsters like Wally, Max, or the Quicks. That may change, especially if they get a story idea that calls for another speedster, but at the moment that seems to be the concept they're going for.
I mean, it'd be easy to introduce Wally: just make him a supporting character somewhere (he doesn't have to be Iris' nephew if they're worried about the age problem, or they could de-age him), or put him in a new team book. Or yeah, maybe he is trapped in the Speed Force somewhere. But they haven't brought him back yet, and there's probably a reason for it.
Would people be happy with Wally as an unpowered supporting character? (this is not snark, I'm genuinely asking) It was done in Flashpoint, I could see it happening here too.

That's an excellent question. I do think people would accept an unpowered Wally...at first. Whether that would start a secret countdown in fans' minds to a hoped-for power-up, I don't know. Still, that is an interesting idea.

Here's a solution that would (IMO) make fans happy: Use the Multiverse. If Jay is the fastest man alive on Earth 2, then Wally could be the fastest man alive on a different Earth. Just put him on a world where he is a hero in his own right--NOT a legacy. It could be a home for other MIA/displaced characters like Donna Troy, Jade, Obsidian, Tempest, maybe Cass Cain and Stephanie Brown as well. I'd put Mia Dearden, the second Speedy, there as well.
Just give Wally his own unique niche, yes?

I think a series based on that Earth would draw a lot of fans, without a doubt!

Still, DC editorial would have to be open to the idea. They've rejected a couple of Wally pitches, and Didio is no fan of the character. Editorial mandates are a fact of life, but I think they're often influenced by things that have nothing to do with creativity--i.e., characters that the higher-ups like or dislike. (See: Cain, Cass.)

However, if DC would even do something like that (as a series), they'd have to be extra careful to avoid comparisons to Earth 2 with a pitch that would make the story worth the investment (beyond use of characters not being used).
