If some of you have noticed that I haven't posted quite as much as usual lately, it's due to some issues in RL. My daughter is being discharged from the hospital today after her second recent trip there. She has had ulcerative colitis for some time, and finally reached the point where surgery was needed. She went into the hospital in early November and later had emergency surgery to remove her colon. She is recovering well - thankfully. She had to go back in due to some infections that we expected after emergency surgery, but she is doing okay now.
She has two more procedures ahead of her in the next few months - the last will allow her to stop using an ostomy bag and will let her go to the bathroom more normally. Part of her small intestine will be formed into a pouch to simulate the large intestine and everything will be hooked back together for a more normal day for her.
The tough part is that this was her first semester of college - not necessarily the way you want to start a college career. But, she has a tremendous attitude and is looking forward to getting back to school in January.
Anyhow, all of this is to say that I've been back and forth with her in the hospital and haven't always had the access...or the time...to be able to post as much as I would like. I appreciate those who have posted here in the meantime, and I want to thank all of you for your patience. My daughter is improving every day and will be fine.
My wife and son also have ulcerative colitis, so we obviously have a strong interest in the subject. btw - if you want to know a bit more about ulcerative colitis there is an excellent resource at www.ccfa.org
AND - we will be participating in the Take Steps-Be Heard walk in the Triangle Area of North Carolina next April (that's the area around Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill NC). I'll post more about that later. Thanks to all once again for your understanding and your continued visits to this forum!
