In the first couple seasons of Happy Days back in the 70s, Richie Cunningham (played by Ron Howard) had an older brother, Chuck. Chuck was always shown with a sandwich in one hand and a basketball under his opposite arm.
At the end of the second season Chuck went upstairs in the Cunningham household. He was never seen, heard from, or even mentioned again.
That's kind of how DC is treating Wally. It's like Dan Didio & Geoff Johns want us to forget the past 20+ years of Wally being The Flash-- pretend they never happened. I'm beginning to wonder if Wally will end up being a Flashpoint casualty.
I wonder if, after Barry "fixes" the FP universe it won't be completely fixed. Maybe Wally's role in the DC Universe will be further minimalized & marginalized by FP which, if you think about it, is DC's ultimate opportunity to retcon all the stuff they don't/didn't like and thus that they no longer want to be canon.
I'm hoping I'm wrong. I haven't been happy with DC's handling of the Flash since Flash #232 when Wally originally "retired" so he could raise his kids with Linda and honestly the only thing that's kept me interested in the title since Barry's return has been Professor Zoom. Johns has done a MUCH better job with the resurrection/return of Eobard Thawne than he has with the resurrection/return of Barry Allen.

Speaking of characters who vanish into nothingness......A Funny thing, I was just Watching the Pilot of CSI and I realized something. Catherine Willows had a son named Jeremy. We never see him again or hear mention of him after that episode.

It was reported a few years back that Didio found Nightwing redundant and proposed having him killed off in one of the companies' major events. He was obviously talked out of it by someone but if he found Nightwing "redundant" what hope does Wally have?

He's not. although In the Last ten or so years that Didio's been with the company, he's made some of the most asinine calls in history! Wally's current predicament is just another bad call.

Somehow I don't think Wally will remain "out" of the DCnU - the fans never really cared about Chuck Cunningham, but a lot of us (even old fans like me who bought Barry Allen in the 60's) care a lot about Wally.

Because no one ever expects Dick to replace Bruce as Batman. Even after Morrison 'killed' Bruce and Dick took on the mask, no one expected it to be permanent. Bruce is always going to be Batman. But Wally is not always going to be the Flash. Barry died but no one thought, at that time, that he would ever return. So Wally takes over and he's been the Flash for over 20 years. But bring back Barry, they undermine the entire reason for Wally being the Flash, now they don't know what to do with him. Dick and Wally are in the same class, but in totally different leagues.

I hate to admit it, but I really don't see DC backing down and bringing back Wally in any way, shape or form.
They've pretty much burnt all bridges and salted the earth behind them in their bid to make Barry THE Flash again.

They've pretty much burnt all bridges and salted the earth behind them in their bid to make Barry THE Flash again. I suspect Wally will probably return in a year or two. Put him on another Earth in the Multiverse and he'll be fine. Jay is the Flash on WWII-era Earth-2. I'm all in favor of Wally being on Earth-2 or simply elsewhere in the Multiverse. I've heard rumors of Wally's return--but this is DC. Just keep in mind that Didio also said Barry was never returning as late as 2007 or 2008. Just don't believe everything you hear from these guys. I suspect Wally's too popular to remain MIA for long.

First, WELCOME to pennydreadful! Glad to see you on the forum! Second, I think you're right...in the end DC is still a business and I can't see them leaving Wally out for too long when there is a certain market. I just wish it would happen sooner rather than later.

Thanks dude. Hope you don't kill me for this, but for the foreseeable future, I'm going to mainly be getting old trades and back issues for my Flash fix. For those who like the latest relaunch, however, great!

Hey, each to their own. I'm liking the present run so far, but hopefully there will be something in the future that will make more Flash fans happy.

Dick: Who??? Roy harper? Arsenal? That dope head??
Wally: HAH! You DO remember! In this new universe, he's alcoholic!!
Dick: Shhhh. Didio still thinks I'm expendable.
