I'm curious about what others might bring Jay into the New 52. Pretend one of the titles DC created for the relaunched centered on Jay Garrick. How would you reintroduce and revitalize his character and what approach would you want the series to take?
If I was in charge, I would make it about Jay in his prime as The Flash. Call it Flash: Generation One or something like that and I'd have it placed in the main timeline (although, I guess it would work in Earth-2 as well). Start out with the origin and go from there. The origin would be largely the same, but maybe mix in a few made-up chemicals with the heavy water vapors in order to seem how he gets his powers a bit easier to swallow. The setting would continuously be approximately 20-25 years in the past (relative to the majority of the DCU line) and Jay would still be a young man in his later twenties in graduate school. I would imagine that Joan and perhaps another friend of Jay's would be in the regular cast.
In stark contrast to how Jay is typically shown as the wise grandfather of the DC heroes, I'd have Jay know absolutely nothing about what he's doing. He's not stupid, just naive and usually finds himself in over his head by biting off more than he can chew. In some ways, the book would be more comedic. The overall arc of the character would show how he becomes that elder statesman.
Those are just my half-baked thoughts. I know it breaks the "heroes are new" rule in the New 52, but...erm...I don't care.
What would you guys do?

I dunno - except for the "20-25 years in the past" you're pretty much on track (since you did mention it would work on E-2). At the least, you were closer than I was about it.
