Newsarama.com just published a copy of the PowerPoint presentation DC recently provided to comic book retailers. It has a rather detailed analysis, so I thought I'd put the link here to the original Newsarama article. This article will give you the full presentation. Please add your thoughts here after you get a chance to review. Here's the link: www.newsarama.com/php/multimedia/album.php?aid=46102

I wasn't very happy with that survey -- it didn't tell me until I'd spent nearly half an hour on it that they won't take results from non-Americans (it's fine if they don't, but they should have said so upfront).
And of course more males than females buy DC comics, but this female didn't qualify and wasn't included in the data.
I don't think any of the findings surprised me. Question is, how will DC respond to it?

I think that's the million dollar question...how DC will respond. I also didn't like the lack of female representation in the survey. It blows me away how little the comics industry in general ignores female readership. There's a whole market out there (demographically a bigger market than the male market, btw) that they could gain if they were smart - particularly at a time they are making so many moves to stop a steady decline in sales. The New 52 seems to be a big step forward in terms of sales...but they could move so much further if they only had a brain on this one.

Titles like Demon Knights, which has quite a few female characters who aren't T&A, are a good start. I don't know how many women are buying it, but I decided to pick it up even though the genre isn't usually my thing (I do like the historical time period, though). I'm not buying it because it has female characters, but that's a nice plus.
There will always be picky female readers who get mad when everything isn't perfectly to their standards, but most women are generally pretty happy with superhero comics so long as the comics and companies aren't actively insulting. The Tumblr comics crowd has a LOT of women in it, for instance.
Anyway, mostly I hope the reboot hasn't alienated the core readership so that sales drop even further.
