Great Review! I agree that the "Silver Age" feel is in this issue, which I enjoyed. It's nice to have that every once in a while in today's "all serious" & "real" Age.
I like Barry (a.k.a. Al......and I'm apparently old enough to get the Paul Simon reference....and find myself humming the tune as I post this) in the bar. It makes a temporary connection to the Rogues, and opens up future story arcs involving them, the "Keys", and with Patty if she ever finds out he's still alive.
I enjoy the subtle "meta" changes in the Rogues, and The Man & Booch have done well to keep the essence of the characters while making changes. Dr. Elias is turning into a great villain as well, much in the "Lex Luthor" fashion
I'm glad to see the "1&Dones" coming to an end, as we head into the Annual & Gorilla Warfare....which should have all the major players involved.
Liked the issue overall, and thought it was better than #10 in dialogue.

Great review, speedster! I'll agree with your assessment of that conversation at the bar - and your overall review. Thanks for putting the link here!

Great review the issue (for what it was) was not bad at all. Still, something has been nagging at my mind about this new augmented cognition power Barry has and it just lit up for me this morning (like a lightning bolt naturally) I went through my old hardcover copy of the Greatest Flash stories ever told and found that Barry had something of this ability before. in an adventure from 1977 in Five--Star SuperHero Spectacular (Man! There's a great name for a book!!) HOW TO PREVENT A FLASH! The adventure stars none other than Patty Spivot (who, by the way, looks a lot like that girlfriend of Walter West's, Angela Margolin) in it she is subjected to the same lab accident that struck both Barry and Wally (And what's up with that lab anyway?!? Does the window have a lightning rod attached to it or what?) Anyhow Patty gains the power of Superspeed and adopts the Nom de Gur of Ms. Flash (Barry of course neither reveals his identity to her nor does he really approve of Patty's sudden jumping headlong into the Super-Hero game. Patty's powers of course, present their own problems such as Patty causing poisonous gasses to rise into the air when she runs across water and strange radiation to emit from her that causes buildings to explode in the city. It is at this point we learn that Barry has imagined the entire incident in just a few seconds and then prevented the entire episode by getting Patty away from the Lightning/chemical explosion before it all came true. (oddly I think this is the only time Barry ever used such an ability until now)

Wow! I missed that issue - and I'm amazed both that you found it and that it carried that story. Wonder if M&B read that one before adding that into continuity this time around?

So does this mean that we grab our pitch forks and irrationally scream that M&B are nothing but incompetent hacks who should be fired and never work again?

noooooo I don't think we're ready for that just yet. let's not forget that this has become something of a DC trademark lately. taking very old and usually pretty obscure bits from long forgotten stories in the Bronze Age First, Blackest Night which was largely culled from Tygers and now this new power of Barry's as well as Patty spivot's existance (Which i don't think was really mentioned prior to this story.

Well, color me informed for I didn't know Patty appeared back in the Bronze Age. Really liked this issue (and everyone's review). The whole feel of it was down-to-earth. Yeah, it sounds wacky, but to me, it makes sense that the Rogues would have a favorite bar hangout (Batman's rogues have Arkham, Barry's Rogues have a bar!) Barry's new attitude and persona is most interesting. One of the gripes I've always heard about Barry was that he was this stuffy boring police scientist. Yet here now, he branches out, trying out for new and different jobs and shows off some new uses for his talents. He also becomes more down-to-earth, more blue collar, which is why his conversation with Snart was so interesting. If this is the start of a beautiful friendship, I'm interested to see where it progresses. Snart's comments, along with Heat Wave's and the bartender's, were intriguing as well. Apparently the Rogues blame Snart for their new-found abilities or at least Heat Wave does. How far that hatred goes for the rest of the group remains to be seen. Barry does need to get his precognition under control. Although I have to wonder, my first impression was that pickpocket was the Pied Piper for he wore a similar-colored green jacket that Piper wears. (A speedster gets pickpocketed.....isn't that rather funny?) To is quite the fill-in artist for Manapul. The fight scenes in the bar were electric, loved it. (Also love the footnotes, never discount reminding readers of what happened when) All in all, very solid issue. Bring on the Glider!
