I'm finally getting around to playing Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes on the 3DS, which includes a large number of characters from the DCU. Some of these are silver age types (including Diana Prince, the "classic" Batman with the yellow oval around the bat, etc.) while some are more recent, and that cast includes The Flash.
The game play (at least for the 3DS) is classic button-mashing fun with some puzzles to be figured out along the way. Given the Lego format and branding, it is obviously very kid-friendly with no blood or gore, just the occasional lego character falling apart (and quickly replaced on screen if it is one of our heroes).
You can also unlock characters and play as a variety of other characters, both good guys and bad guys (including Captain Boomerang and Captain Cold...possibly others but I haven't unlocked other Rogues yet). As for the Flash...
The Flash can run faster than any other character, and that is great for the free-play mode since you are going through familiar territory and don't want to waste too much time. He can run across water, though that really isn't an advantage in this game. For some reason they turned him into one of the family of acrobatic characters, meaning he can swing from place to place or go through the many chutes that are available in the game. And finally, there's the treadmill, which only The Flash can operate successfully. The treadmill unlocks various items through the game, so it is an upside to The Flash's character. That being said...
As much as I love The Flash, I find myself sticking to Superman and Batman (or Supergirl and Batgirl or Huntress) a lot in this game. It's just the game mechanics and what seems to have the greatest utility for various situations and puzzles. Still, I keep Flash handy - you can "replace in" characters during a scene - just in case.
Overall, it is light but fun entertainment, and now that the price has dropped in the USA to just under $20, it is more than worth the price to me.
Has anyone else tried this game out yet? What are your thoughts?
