"San Diego Comic-Con is less than a month away and if Warner’s wants to make a big splash of announcements of new superhero films this is the time and place to do so. In all reality, if the Justice League movie is still slated for a 2015 release then Warner Bros. may not have the time to give us any standalone films now and may do so afterwards. Here is my take on how one of these films could work regardless if it’s produced before or after Justice League.
How The Flash could be the next Warner Bros. DC Comics film

First up is the Flash. Why do we need a Flash film you ask? The Flash has been one of the most important figures in DC Comics since his inception in Flash Comics #1 in 1940. There are many people who have donned the mantle of the world’s fastest hero but, the one person who should be the Flash for the new film is none other than Barry Allen. Main reason why? Barry Allen is the most recognizable Flash. He was the Silver Age Flash and will always be the first Silver Age superhero. Barry is the second Flash in the Flash family tree and he has been an integral part of almost every major DC Comics storyline. From Crisis on Infinite Earths to Blackest Night to the more recent Flashpoint which brought us the New 52 universe.
Barry’s origin goes like this: At the age of eleven, his mother was murdered. His father was wrongly tried and convicted for the murder and later died in prison. Allen refused to believe that his father was guilty of the crime and he dedicated his life to finding the real murderer. Allen studied forensic science and became a police scientist. One night, as he is preparing to leave work, a lightning bolt shatters a case full of chemicals and spills them all over Allen. As a result, Allen finds that he can run extremely fast and has matching reflexes. He dons a set of red tights sporting a lightning bolt, dubs himself the Flash (after his childhood comic book hero, Jay Garrick), and becomes Central City's resident costumed crime fighter.
As for the villain? It would be wise to go with someone that can match speed and power with Flash. Both characters can battle at super speed around Central City.
Enter Professor Zoom as the Reverse Flash! He is the perfect choice budget wise. Who is reverse Flash? Eobard Thawne aka Professor Zoom who first appeared in The Flash #139 (September 1963), is a criminal from the 25th century who found a time capsule containing the Silver Age Flash's costume.
He is able to use a machine to amplify the suit's speed energy, giving himself the abilities of the Flash as long as he wears it. In the process, the colors of the costume reverse, with the suit becoming yellow, the boots and lightning bolt highlights turning red, and the chest symbol's white circle becoming black. Zoom murdered Barry Allen's mother and framed his father so this will help with the films pacing and keep the audience interested in Barry's quest to find the killer. Zoom can employ another one of Flash’s enemies to keep him off his trail such as Weather Wizard, Heatwave or Mirror Master. This is a good jumping off point to start a Flash franchise and if Warner Bros. is not looking to make any sequels this stand alone type of film would be a good bridge to link to a Justice League film in the future".
