So, as I am sure everyone here knows, Barry Allen will be popping up a few times this season on Arrow, with his final appearance slated to be a back-door pilot for a Flash TV series.
Obviously, for the Flash series to work, at lot depends on how well the producers, network, and, to a lesser extent, viewers/fans take to this version of Barry. The showrunners seem excited by this possibility, so I wouldn't be surprised if they started to drop hints in episodes to foreshadow the Flash's appearance (even in the non-Barry episodes).
As such, I thought it would be fun to start a thread about things people have noticed in the show that might suggest a Flash appearance or a nod to the Flash mythology. Already in Arrow, we have had references to Iron Heights and Central City. More will obviously be on the way.
Something I picked up in last week's season opener was on a news report. It was in the background, so the show didn't overly dwell on it, but there was enough focus to make it stand out. The news report mentioned something about a particle accelerator being developed in Central City.
Could this be the beginning of how this version of Barry will get his abilities? That he, somehow, falls into this device and it transforms him? Granted, it strays from the comic origin of lightening and chemicals, but does the change make that much of a difference at the end of the day? I suppose getting his powers this way would be a bit more "grounded" to fit with the narrative style of Arrow.
Of course, this is pure speculation. It might mean absolutely nothing. It just seemed somewhat random to have that thrown in there. Perhaps this particle accelerator will have nothing to do with the Flash. Maybe it'll play a part in the story arc of Arrow: Season 2 instead. Or maybe nothing at all.
Thoughts?
