meh. I have all these in single issues and trades and Geoff's run really kinda dimmed my Flash fandom (I was drooling to get the next issue halfway out of the LCS door every month when Waid, Augustyn, and Morrison were writing it but Johns never really clicked with me. (At least, not on Flash)

Well that was the whole point of the 2002 remake of The Time Machine was that you couldn't go back in time and change the thing that made you want to go back in time to change........ok thats double talk The lead characters girlfriend was killed which caused him to build a time machine for the purpose of stopping her death but her death was the necessary catalyst for the time machine's creation and it couldn't be "un-made" which meant that the girl would have to die in some way. so that the time machine would be built.

at least the Lois and Clark "annulment" was understandable as they wanted to go back to the original status quo but why break up Barry and Iris?!? Barry and Iris were already a solidly established relationship by the time we "met" them in Showcase. Now, I knew they were hinting at a Jim Gordon/Sarah Essen type thing going on between Barry and Patty during this past year but do we really need it?!? It's like tptb at DC are doing everything they can think of to flush all the good things our characters had down the toilet. The real villain of the DCU isn't reverse Flash Mirror Master or Anti-Monitor. It's Dan Didio!

Poor Thawne I actually feel bad for him. here he was Barry's best Villain, and what really amounts to a week or so of freedom from Prison and he gets run through by Batman's Dad....(at least we got a nice figure of him for the trouble)
Seriously this whole thing is really lousy in my mind and I've really lost faith we'll ever have the True DCU back to the way it belongs. I'm starting to wonder if Didio and co. are secretly working for Marvel or Todd McFarlane to destroy DC from within. (actually that's been a theory of mine since 2003 when the Super books started putting all the SA influences into Superman.

I thought it was fantastic! I'm a huge GL fan been reading it as long as I have the Flash (1992 or so) I'm hoping we'll get a sequel for it.

It seems like many of the DCU's best and brightest were given decent send offs before the DCnU turns them into mishmash (well except for Wally of course.) The Lois and Clark Marriage in particular was given a very nice send off in both Action and Superman and I'm really going to miss it Bart also was sent into the next life with some nod to what was good about the Flash books for the last 25 or so years. (I like Barry, don't get me wrong, but I can't support such a heinous act of indifference as the one we're seeing here (not only towards Wally but to the relationship between Barry and Iris which is even more Sacred than Lois and Clark!!!!!)

ok here's my favorite Scenario....."What If?" Jay Garrick had run a long race in the forties as the Flash some would say his time was up....BUT! Superman was still Flying around and pretending to be meek and mild Clark Kent Bruce Wayne was still swinging from rooftop to rooftop as Batman and he wasn't showing any signs of losing his skill Diana was always an immortal Amazon so she's not going anywhere any time real soon. Why not keep Jay as the Flash...some would say, "How?" well Jay's a research Chemist who's spent years fighting crime so eventually he'd turn to police Science (no need to create a new character just evolve the job description) Jay finds that since he and the others stepped down in the past few years his speed has been ebbing away probably the formula that gave him his speed was wearing off (after all all chemical effects wear off from time to time, some even quicker than others. Jays powers only lasted what? fifteen years? So Jay decides to try and re-create his powers. He's working late in the lab one night, there's a thunderstorm and as it happened with Barry, so now it happens to Jay the Lightning strikes his chemical rack and douses him with the electrified chemicals. (as with barry, Jay only sees a messed up lab and worse, his research notes into the old formula destroyed Jay grouses about the lost time and the apparent lack of regaining his powers until he goes outside. in stead of trying to catch a cab Jay finds himself seeing a purse-snatcher running away from a screaming woman. Jay tries to run after the punk and is astonished to find himself possessed of even greater speed than he had before. careful to conceal his identity with his blurring face trick, Jay deposits the felon in jail and then races home to tell Joan. Joan's ecstatic about Jay's renewed powers but she stops him from pulling the old costume out of mothballs Joan says that it's a new time and Jay needs to keep in time with rest of the world and that his old costume needs an updating as well at first Jay merely adds a silver mask to his tights instead of the hat and pulls up the boots but Joan says that the red and blue look is so well associated with Superman that people will think it's Superman doing Jays deeds and that the Flash should be distinctively recognizable even if he's a barely glimpsed "Blur" Jaytakes this into consideration and finally settles on the more well known Yellow and red suit of the Flash with the same cowl and lightning wing tipped earpieces etc... Jay resumes his career as the Flash with all the trappings that made Barry famous. A year later, Joan introduces Jay to her sister's son Wally West (how's that for a ret-con? Mary West's maiden name is Williams ...) Wally of course is president of the Flash Fan Club back home and as it occurred original so it does here, Wally is struck by Lightning in Jays Lab and is made the Sidekick to the Flash BLUR!!! (Hey, if it was good enough for Clark in Smallville.....lol) of course History follows it's course Professor Zoom makes Jays life miserable and kills Joan......of course we learn Joan's actually a time-displaced from the 30th century and her parents save her by implanting her soul into a new body later on. but in the meantime, Jay Starts Dating Joan's cousin Iris West....(had to sneak her in somewhere! but as they're about to get married Zoom reappears and Jay kills him rather than lose his new bride. Jay goes on Trial is eventually acquitted and retires to the future leaving Wally With an updated version of the costume in a true passing of the torch! Jay is of course kidnapped by the anti-monitor and dies saving the multi-verse Wally becomes the new Flash. (for a time!)

lol we actually could have had two Black Lantern Irises Follow: Zoom Kills iris with a lightning fast jab into her brain This Iris is buried at central City Cemetery (even though her spirit/essence call it what you will...is brought to the 30th century by her real parents Iris' body was buried in the 20th. her grave is seen in the Return of Barry Allen (Flash 3rd series #74) That body is susceptible to Black Ring re-animation Iris II was the body of a young woman who had died with the soul of Iris Russell West-Allen (Yeesh what a long name There!!) who then lived on in the 30th century until her return with Bart just before Terminal Velocity. This Iris was de-aged to her mid-twenties upon Barry's return however as she is the soul of one who had "died" she's subject to possession by another Black lantern Ring ( just to differentiate Iris I could be the typical decayed corpse wearing the Batgirl costume she wore when she died and Iris II could be wearing her present day reporter gal work clothes in Black with the grey skin and blacked out eyes)

I have most of the issues in single form myself (in fact I just ordered a bunch of issues from Thawnes death to just before the trial begins.) I'm not a big fan of the showcase volumes as they're in b/w

hmmmm that never really impacted me that much although one of RAs at my dorm asked me who Monarch turned out to be and when I said Hawk he was like "who?" The thing that always threw me though was what happened to him in JSA In Zero Hour Monarch becomes Extant and kills Waverider taking his powers and becoming a being of living Chronal energy. A few years later Al Rothstein (Atom Smasher, formerly Nuklon) tricks Extant and puts him in his (al's) mother's place just before a plabe crashes...an airplane crash shouldn't be able to kill someone made of chronal energy. he should've just up and walked away monumentally annoyed at being tricked and used.

Those guys are too busy sitting in their PJs watching old Superfriends episodes to care about anything the fans want. ( I honestly think these guys spent the last twenty odd years getting themselves situated into the company to the point where they could undo everything that was done in the Crisis!)

He's not. although In the Last ten or so years that Didio's been with the company, he's made some of the most asinine calls in history! Wally's current predicament is just another bad call.

except that owen got his heart ripped out during the Blackest Night by the corpse of his old man
(come to think of it Cassie Sandsmark also had her heart ripped out of her chest in the Blackest Night Wonder Woman mini so maybe there's hope for Owen after all.)

Speaking of characters who vanish into nothingness......A Funny thing, I was just Watching the Pilot of CSI and I realized something. Catherine Willows had a son named Jeremy. We never see him again or hear mention of him after that episode.

That was when he updated the suit. Until then he had been wearing Barry's old suits but When Vandal Savage kidnapped his Mom and his Dog (Mercury) He destroyed all of the Suit making material Barry left for Wally. This I think was really the beginning of Wally's ascent from Fill-in Hero to full-fledged successor. Messner-Loebs was at his best here!
Another Really fun issue is the War of the Gods Tie-in (#55) where Wally teams up with Hermes against Mercury It's absolutely hysterical the way Hermes gets under Wally's skin.

any way you can get it, Speed Force, Mathmatical formula, Chemical concoction or even Temporal manipulation (Zoom II) what would you do with it? how would you use it? would you take a name and wear a costume or would you just do things "on the Sly"
Myself I'd wear a street clothes style outfit Jeans, sneakers, a T-shirt maybe a cap and sunglasses combo for identity concealment But I'd also use some of my powers to personal interests. Instead of using up my Job's allotted vacation time, when i was planning a vacation I'd work through the week in question (or month for that matter) and then go back to just before it began and enjoy my trip while my past self worked. (Note: make sure you don't use the same credit card on vacation that you did on the work week)

hmmmmm my biggest concern is the soundtrack to be honest...After Twenty plus years I still haven't heard anything the beats the great job Danny Elfman did on the Main Title theme or that Shirley Walker did on the rest of the score (which has been available on CD for about a year or so!) The question is how will they play it? Will it be CSI meets Spandex or will it be something else entirely? Who's the lead villain? Flash has so many and while Reverse Flash has currently maintained the top spot he didn't come along til much Later (I'd be happy waiting Til a third Flash film to see him appear honestly!)
