That is probably true, but part of the problem is to ask "where are these female creators," "do these female creators even want to work for the bigger publishers", and, from a business standpoint, "will their work sell?" It is incredibly hard to get into the comics business already. And it is a business that is suffering from a slow death. Publishers are not going to hire someone willy-nilly just to fill a gender quota. This is the one point where I would respectfully disagree with speedster. There are great female creators out there who are having a great deal of difficulty getting a chance because of their gender. Gail Simone is only one example of great talents who frankly had a very hard time breaking into the industry...but given the chance, proved that talent can win out, and can even be highly successful from both a critical and business standpoint. When a group has been historically left out for reasons other than talent and ability, it's hard to right that ship. This is true regardless of whether you are looking at gender or race or any other way people have been divided against each other over the years. But, it doesn't mean you have to hire less-than-talented people to make things right...it just means you stop overlooking the talent that is clearly there, and that you embrace the opportunity to get things right moving forward.

Diamond Comics Distributors has released their Top 100 comics for August 2012, and the results are interesting to say the least. Here are the Flash related results for the month: - Justice League #12 came in at #4 for the month, behind only AvX (2 issues) and Batman.
- earth 2 #4 finished at #13, not far behind Detective[ and Action.
- The Flash #12 was #30 for the month, just behind Superman and well ahead of Wonder Woman.
- The Flash Annual #1 was at 37 for the month (not bad to see both Flash issues hitting in the top 40, all things considered).
- Teen Titans #12 came in at #39, meaning all Flash-related titles were in the top 40 for the month.
Our favorite speedsters still finished the month well ahead of most of the Marvel line-up, though obviously not in the Top 10 finishes enjoyed just after the New 52 hit. If there is more info I'll pass it along, but in the meantime here is the link to that chart from Diamond: www.diamondcomics.com/Home/1/1/3/597?articleID=125494

CBR has an interview up with Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato, in which they discuss both Flash #0's origin story for Barry and the upcoming Gorilla Warfare story arc. It's a good read...and hints at some upcoming (but unidentified) surprises to be found. Here's the link to the article: www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=40879

Newsarama has once again run one of it's "10 Best" series of articles, this one on the "10 Best Comic Book Live-Action TV Series of All Time". The Flash, starring John Wesley Shipp (seems like only yesterday that was on the air) came in at #6. Here's the link to the full article, for your consideration and comments: www.newsarama.com/tv/10-best-comic-book-live-action-series-ever-111025-1.html

Thank you for sharing your story here. I am so sorry you have gone through such terrible things in your life, and I know it takes tremendous courage to tell what has happened to you. I do get why so many women would not feel like they could report what happened to them. Frankly, you don't owe anything to anyone other than yourself, and I hope you are doing well now.
It deeply saddens and frankly enrages me that the most vile and disgusting behavior is allowed to go basically unchecked far too often. Let's be clear - "free speech" as guaranteed by the United States constitution (often cited in these arguments) does NOT mean you can say whatever you want without consequence. It just means you can say that you don't like the government without fear of being thrown into jail for your dissent. It does NOT mean that you can say whatever hateful, disgusting, vile thing you want to say and then act as if no one has a right to object. It does NOT mean you can stalk and verbally attack someone without fear of being shut down. And, most of all, it does NOT mean you can threaten someone online without fear of legal recourse.
We may not be able to fully stamp out this type of behavior. There are so many ways a troll can keep going, even when a hundred e-mail addresses and handles are shut down. But, it is past time that we stand up, that we at least say "That's Not Right!" when we see this kind of behavior. Hopefully, we'll see more people with the courage to stand up - and if so, then we may actually have a chance to stop a lot of this terrible behavior.

Over the weekend there was quite a bit of coverage about the efforts to deal with a troll who had been sending abusive and even threatening messages to female comics creators and fans for over two years. I truly wish that this was the only person acting in such a manner...but unfortunately this just isn't the case. In the aftemath of this coverage I read blog entries and Tweets from people I respect who have dealt with this kind of behavior for a very long time. I have a lot more to say on this subject, and thought I'd include a link to my Tumblr for your consideration (see below): barryallenvsm.tumblr.com/post/30914249801/misogyny-in-comics-fans-no-place-for-thisIt saddens me...and disgusts me as well that this type of behavior exists. On this forum, if you love comics you are most welcome here, and you can count on being treated with respect. That is a promise.

Newsarama has one of their "10 Best" (sometimes 5 best, 8 best, you get the idea) articles, this time giving their editorial take on the best parts of the New52. Normally I don't link to those types of articles here, but this list starts off in a manner with which I completely agree. Their #10 item is "Artists Turned Writers", centering on the Flash team of Manapul and Buccellato. Here's a quick quote: "... the combination of Brian Buccellato and Francis Manapul on The Flash has helped redefine the way comics are read, as they rely heavily on their art to explain what's usually spelled out in captions." I have to agree - here's the link to the full article: www.newsarama.com/comics/one-year-later-best-of-dc-new-52-1.html

Here's a wiki on that incarnation of the League: dc.wikia.com/wiki/Justice_League_DetroitI'm not sure this version of the JLA deserves all of the venom thrown its way by some fans. It certainly didn't contain the Big Three as a group at any one time (though Batman did come aboard to help this group at one point) and was written in a way that made clear these were mostly 2nd tier characters trying to find their way. But, it did provide us with Vixen, who a lot of fans DO like...and we'll see what they do with Vibe while re-introducing him. I think it is fair to say that this version of the league doesn't qualify as a "favorite" to most fans. I don't know if there is a collected edition of them, however - anyone have better info on that?

DC's blog has a story (as does Newsarama on their announcement at Fan Expo Toronto of a NEW ongoing JLA (yes, Justice League of America) series starting in 2013. This series does not replace Justice League, but is rather an additional title (also written by Geoff Johns) featuring "an underdog" group of characters determined to prove they are "as A-list as anybody". The line-up includes: - Martian Manhunter
- Green Arrow
- Katana
- The new Green Lantern named Baz
- Steve Trevor (yep, Steve is in the picture anyways)
- Vibe
- Hawkman
- Catwoman, and...
- Stargirl (ah, one of the new generation JSA'ers will hit here!
Here's a link to the DC announcement: www.dccomics.com/blog/2012/08/26/dc-entertainment-announces-justice-league-of-americaA link to a sketch of the JLA for 2013: media.dcentertainment.com/sites/default/files/JL_12_32_33.jpgAnd a link to Newsarama's article that led us to DC's announcement: www.newsarama.com/comics/new-justice-league-of-america.htmlLots to talk about here, such as: 1. How do Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow and Hawkman, all classic JLA'ers from the silver age, fit in with the additional members? 2. How does Catwoman fit into this? I know she has walked both sides of the law, but JLA membership is a very big step for her. 3. How will Stargirl be written now that she is no longer a JSA member in the New52? What will be her origin? 4. Will Vibe be written in a way that makes a good impression this time around (leaving behind the stigma so many fans place on the Detroit League)? 5. And the obvious question - how will this fit in with the upcoming Trinity War? As for me, I'm looking forward to this. I was a bit disappointed to see Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow and Hawkman left out of this version of the Justice League, and I'm very happy to see a 2nd generation JSA member showing back up in continuity. Let's hear your thoughts on this one!
